Art Galleries for Tourists to visit in Nepal

If you’re going to be visiting Nepal then chances are your going to want to take a few days to see the sights around the cities. One of the attractions that are a must see are Nepal’s many Art Galleries that are scattered across the cities. Nepal’s Galleries display both contemporary pieces as well as intriguing ancient artworks. Within Nepal the Hindu and Buddhist religions are prevalent and you will notice much of the artists have been influenced by there religion when creating there art pieces.

The National Art Gallery

The National Gallery of Nepal is located in the famous complex of Bhaktapur Durbar Square. The Gallery is more of a museum of Paintings housing paintings from the early to late Malla period along with Bronze, Brass, Wooden and Stone images. It also contains some of the rarest paintings of Nepal along with a large array of manuscripts that contains illustrations and covers that have been painted. If your wanting to visit the museum then please not that it is not open on Thursdays or Government Holidays.

NAFA Gallery

The NAFA is situated in the Sita Bhavan which is a classical old Rana Palace located in Naxal, Kathmandu. The NAFA Gallery is broken up into two sections. The first being the Biredra which is a permanent hall that displays only the most eminent work of contemporary Painters and sculptors. The second section is used for occasional exhibitions that are used by established or newly emerging artists from Nepal.

Srijana Contemporary Art Gallery

The Srijana Contemporary Art Gallery is located inside the Bhrikutimandap Exhibition grounds in Kathmandu. The gallery provides regular Art Classes in the morning and evening that can be taken up by local residents and tourists. The Art Gallery was created as a joint venture between a group of contemporary Painter and sculptors and the regularly organize solo exhibitions and group shows to present the talent of Nepalese artists.

J Art Gallery

The J Art is located in a prestigious area in Durbarmarg, Kathmandu which is within minutes walking distance of the Royal Palace. The Gallery mainly hosts exhibitions that display works of art by established Nepalese Painters that can be bought by the public.

Nepal Art Council Gallery

The Nepal Art Council Gallery is located in the way to Tribhuvan International Airport in Naner Mahal. The Gallery is owned by a local organization who frequently displays works of art by artists both locally and abroad.
